Granada Hills Highlanders Tribute to Zac

During the annual Granada Hills High School Marching Band Competition this weekend, the Highlander Marching Band (present and former band members) took to the field and paid a musical tribute to Zac.

In case you didn't know, Zac was a saxophone player with the Highlander Marching Band; he was also section leader and served as vice-president of the Band Council.

The coolest thing was how the alumns wore the armbands honoring DJ Henry. There is no doubt that unless all communities who have been victimized by the senseless policy of the use of deadly force, such as in cases like Zac's and DJ's, band together nothing will change and other families will be victimized.

What happened to the urgency and severity of the call for justice for Zac?

The hand-holding and bake sales and group hugs certainly help to begin the healing process. The emotional devastation to the friends of Zac is obviously still raw and harsh.

It will take a long time for those scars to grow to cover the openly wounded heart.

But the very practical issue of fighting to see progress towards the business of justice should not be ignored. If Justice for Zac is still the important and essential goal, then each passing day without progress means the hard work is simply falling further behind.

It cant be left up to the goodwill of the system and its practitioners to do the right thing.

No squeaking wheels, no grease - just a slow fade awwaaaay.

Point is - yes, it is important for all communities and peoples who have experienced similiar loss to find their unity.

But it is essential for the specific case of Zac C. and the persons who block and open the specific doors which reveal the wheels of justice to receive specific and directed and focused pressure immedeatly and constantly to move this file from beneath the growing pile and put it on top and get it moving.

The logjam won't be any easier to break tomorrow. And with each passing day is just another delay until for never.

If this really matters.

This Justice for Zac.

Then take this battle to the front lines and give it all the fight you got.

As soon as daylight breaks the night.
